Could gamification of lessons be the key to student engagement? Research and experementation is suggesting...yes!
Gamification: A lesson design based on video game mechanics, with reward systems, achievements, points and levels.
Game Based Learning: Using games to enhance the learning experience. The use of games to reach certain pre-designed learning outcomes.
Incorporating games into the learning environment places emphasis on the learning process, not just the results. It is a fantastic way to boost student engagement and enjoyment with course material.
When lesson objectives become achievements, and challenges and tasks become levels, it creates a safe and fun environment for students to learn, interact and develop skills, and solve problems collaboratively.

Some things to watch out for:
- screen addiction
- decide your assessment strategy BEFORE the lesson
- Pay attention to the logical progression of your scaffolding of information/objectives to accomodate learners of different strengths/speeds.
- Encourage collaboration and teamwork
- ALWAYS be sure of and STICK to your pedagogical goals behind the lesson.
- try and monitor student understanding of the CONTENT, not just how the game works.
